Պատմվածքի հերոսը Հաճի աղան է՝ մի վաճառական, որը շատ է սիրում և արժեքավորում իր ունեցվածքը: Նրա փողոցով անցնելը մի հանդես էր, աղայակա՜ն։ Միշտ հաստ շալը 60-70 տարեկան կուզի վրայով վզին փաթաթած, երկար իրանը բերանքսիվայր ընկնելու պես՝ առաջ թեքած, ուղտի վիզը աոջև երկարած, սև ակնոցների արանքից սապատավոր քիթը օդի մեջ խրած, հայացքը դեպի հեռուն, մի կետի՝ քայլում էր։ Եվ այդ ֆեսավոր Հաճին գիտեր ամեն դար ու փոսի, քար ու ոտնատեղի սովորական պատռվածքը, և եթե սայլի, ոտի կամ բնության հետևանքով քարերն ու ոտնատեղերը նոր կարգով դասավորվեին, Հաճի աղան կանգ կառներ, լրջորեն կկշռեր նոր ոտնատեղի վտանգի չափը, իր դեղնած գավազանի ծայրով բախելով, կստուգեր ոտը դնելիք քարի հավատարմությունը և, գավազանը ցեխի կամ ջրի մեջ դիմահար տալով, զգույշ աքլորի պես ոտները գետնից պոկելով ու վար դնելով, գերագույն խնամքով կանցներ վտանգավոր տեղը։ 17 աոաջ միայն՝ իր անդրանիկ որդուն թաղելիս՝ Հաճի աղան թույլ տվեց, որ կապույտ մահուդ շալվարի տոտերը ցեխոտվեն, և մեկ էլ այսօր, երբ իմացավ, որ թուրքական զորքը ռուսներին նեղելով հաղթական մոտենում է իրենց փոքրիկ սահմանամերձ քաղաքին:

Հաճի աղայի ընտանիքում ավանդույթ կար, որ հենց որ Հաճի աղան մտնում էր տուն, ընտանիքի կանայք պետք է նրա համար սուրճ պատրաստեին, հանեին նրա կոշիկները…
Երբ Հաճի աղայի քույրը՝ Սրբունը, որը կորցրել էր իր ամուսնուն, հիվանդանում է տիֆով և անդամալույծ է դառնում, Հաճի աղան նրան բերում է իր տուն և նրա համար անկյուն է հատկացնում, որովհետև չի ուզում, որ Սրբունը բեռ դառնա ուրիշների ուսերին և նրանք բողոքեն իրենից: Բայց այդ անում է թերևս ոչ թե իր քրոջ, այլ իր պատվի մասին:
Հաճի աղան երբ իմացավ, որ թուրքերը գալու են քաղաք, առաջին բանը, որ մտածեց, իր տունը, ընտանիքը և հարստությունը փրկելն էր, իսկ եթե դա չհաջողվի, ինքն իրեն փրկելը: Նա իրեն ավելի էր սիրում, քան իր ընտանիքը:
Երբ գալիս է փախչելու պահը, Հաճի աղան չի կարողանում ֆուրգոն և սահնակ վերցնել: Սահնակը անհամեմատ փոքր էր ֆուրգոնից, և նա չի ցանկանում վերցնել իր անդամալույծ քրոջը: Եթե վերցներ, ապա չէր կարող պահել իր ընտանիքը և տարիների աշխատած հարստությունը չէր կարողնա փրկել: Եվ, քանի որ նա ինքնասեր էր ու մտածում էր իր անձի մասին, չէր կարող չվերցնել իր հարստությունները:

The Boston Tea Party was a political protest that occurred on December 16, 1773, at Griffin’s Wharf in Boston, Massachusetts. American colonists, frustrated and angry at Britain for imposing “taxation without representation,” dumped 342 chests of tea, imported by the British East India Company into the harbor. The event was the first major act of defiance to British rule over the colonists. It showed Great Britain that Americans wouldn’t take taxation and tyranny sitting down, and rallied American patriots across the 13 colonies to fight for independence

In the 1760s, Britain was deep in debt, so British Parliament imposed a series of taxes on American colonists to help pay those debts. Though lead by Samuel Adams and his Sons of Liberty and organized by John Hancock, the names of many of those involved in the Boston Tea Party remain unknown.

Britain eventually repealed the taxes it had imposed on the colonists except the tea tax. It wasn’t about to give up tax revenue on the nearly 1.2 million pounds of tea the colonists drank each year.

In protest, the colonists boycotted tea sold by British East India Company and smuggled in Dutch tea, leaving British East India Company with millions of pounds of surplus tea and facing bankruptcy.

Museum

The Boston Tea Party Museum is located on the Congress Street Bridge in Boston. It features reenactments, a documentary, and a number of interactive exhibits. The museum features two replica ships of the period, Eleanor and Beaver. Additionally, the museum possesses one of two known tea chests from the original event, part of its permanent collection.
